Hail to Chief Triples

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

With opening day just a whiff away, I’ve got baseball fun facts on the mind. Well one in particular… . Baseball fun facts seem to linger throughout the years and how I recall some of them I cannot explain. Some merely intrigue me. Some simply stupefy. Others well, I can’t even possible fathom how they even occurred in the first place (please – no wisenheimer ‘roid comments)

Astonishing Triple Tales
Ask me what I did last weekend, and I’ll have to get back to you on that. Ask me what I had for dins yesterday… what I did today or that name of that chick my woman is always complaining about at work, and I can’t help you there. On the other hand, ask me who the all-time single-season leader in triples is, and I will promptly reply – Chief Wilson, 36 triples, 1912.

Strong Withstanding Stats
This amazing feat stuns me more than many of baseballs long list of remarkable records. The day of the triple seems to have vanished. Of course, there are speed horses like Reyes and Granderson, but I don’t they or anyone else will come anywhere near the Chief’s 36 triples. Well played Chief. You just may have one baseball’s unbreakable records.
